Dragoman: The Man Who Limped

  1. DRAGOMAN: THE MAN WHO LIMPED - A color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper.

This drawing is one of 7 interior illustrations I did for a forthcoming book titled, "The Adventures of Dragoman," by Otis Adelbert Kline. It illustrates the story, "The Man Who Limped". The book was never published.

In the books that Kline wrote about an Earthman on Mars, he did not get his man there by rocket ship. He got him there with the use of psychic powers; he traded the Earthtman's consciousness with that of a Martian, he simply takes over the mind of the Martian on Mars while the Martian takes over his mind on Earth, a sort of "mind-switch".

Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose stories Kline imitated, did not get his man John Carter to Mars by rocket ship either. He has Carter, mysteriously, just disappear from Earth and materialize on Mars.

Remember, this is fiction, fantasy fiction, tongue in cheek fiction. It takes a youthful mind to enjoy these "Scientific Romances". And what's wrong with that? We have Harry Potter today, and The Lord of the Rings! Hail to all of them for keeping us young at heart.
